Cab Rides Around the British Isles: Norwich to Sheringham via Cromer and Return in 2001

Ref: KF271D

Price:£17.95

Quantity:

Our cab ride was recorded from the cab of an Anglia Railways Sprinter 150257 on 13th August 2001 departing from Norwich at 11.53 and bound for Sheringham.

At Thorpe Junction we take the route towards Lowestoft and at Whittingham Junction we progress on to the ‘Bittern Line’.

We pass through Salhouse and then stop at Hoveton and Wroxham before taking the single line to Cromer.

We see the narrow gauge Bure Valley Railway and our driver sounds the horn to acknowledge a steam locomotive in view.

Our next station is Worsted followed by North Walsham where a Class 66 is in the oil terminal there. Next we run through Gunton and Roughton Road before arriving at the terminus of Cromer.

Our driver changes ends so that our service can proceed to Sheringham. At the stop blocks we can see the preserved North Norfolk Railway which was once connected across the road here. The link has since been reinstated so that trains can pass between Sheringham and Cromer once more on an occasional basis. We retrace our footsteps and return to Norwich.

Our driver was Sarah Swanston, one of the first female drivers in the Anglian region.

Twenty minutes later we arrive at Lancaster and soon afterwards speed past Carnforth with the old steam coaling tower being seen on the left-hand side.

This interesting cab ride is aboard Class 90 025 starting a crew learning light engine movement to Bescot yard.

Once at Tame Bridge we enter Bescot Yard where we begin to start the shunting moves required to be completed by crews in this large yard right alongside the M6 motorway. A good number of stored locomotives are seen in sidings including classes 20,31,37 and 47s.

This operation was by EWS before it became DB Cargo and shows the yard before it became more associated with ballast removal and without diesel locomotives stored in great numbers ready for scrapping.

Cab Rides Around the British Isles: Wembley Royal Mail Depot to Corby

Cab Rides Around the British Isles: Wembley Royal Mail Depot to Corby

Ref: KF267D

Price:£17.95

Quantity:

Our cab ride was recorded from the cab of Rail Express Services (RES) Class 47 No. 47541 "The Queen Mother".

This EWS service started from the Royal Mail Depot at Wembley for its journey to the run-round sidings at Corby. On leaving the Royal Mail Depot we carry out several shunting moves before going under the West Coast Main Line to Acton Canal Wharf and onto the London Avoiding Line.

We progress towards Neasden Junction, Dudding Hill Junction and Hendon, Mill Hill Broadway, Elstree, Radlett, St. Albans, Harpenden and Luton Airport Parkway (still under construction at this time). Continuing up the Midland Main Line, we pass Luton, Leagrave, Harlington, Flitwick and at Bedford we see the new platform No.4 being constructed.

From Bedford North Junction we run onto the down slow, normally freight only, line through Sharnbrook Tunnel (1 mile 100 yards long) and Wellingborough. At Harrowden Junction we proceed onto the down fast line to Kettering South Junction and then back on the down slow through Kettering taking the freight only line to Corby where we go into the run-round sidings and finish the journey.

This DVD was made in conjunction with the English Welsh & Scottish Railway who used it for crew training purposes. We thank EWS and Traction Inspector Paul Hicks for their help in producing this programme.

Note – The section of line between Kettering and Corby has been upgraded as part of the Midland Main Line electrification and now has a passenger service once more. Many structures were upgraded and strengthened during the process.
