Cab Rides Around the British Isles: Hoo Junction to Wembley Yard

Ref: KF305D

Price:£17.95

Quantity:

From the cab of EWS Class 66038 this journey was used for crew training along the fascinating route between Hoo Junction in Kent and Wembley Yard in West London.

A start is made by picking up a cement wagon from the siding before proceeding to the No. 1 reception line and picking up a further nine cargo wagons.

Our route takes us through Gravesend, Dartford, Crayford, Sidcup, Lee, Hither Green, Lewisham, Nunhead, Peckham Rye, Denmark Hill, Clapham High Street, Wandsworth Road, Factory Junction, Longhedge Junction, Latchmere junctions 3,1 and 2 after which we cross the River Thames at Battersea Bridge.

Then on through Kensington Olympia, North Pole Junction, Mitre Bridge Junction, West London Junction and into the extensive Wembley Yard where the wagons are dropped off after passing through much of the yard.

This was made in conjunction with EWS and operated over many freight-only routes.

Cab Rides Around the British Isles: Ipswich to Lowestoft in 2001

Cab Rides Around the British Isles: Ipswich to Lowestoft in 2001

Ref: KF300D

Price:£17.95

Quantity:

All aboard the cab of Anglia Railways 150255 for the 09.19 service from Ipswich to Lowestoft on 20th August 2001.

Soon after departing Ipswich we cross the main line at East Suffolk junction and join the branch here for Lowestoft. First stop is Westerfield where a problem occurs with collecting the Electric Token so the driver progresses a little further long the platform to obtain a signal and the token obtained.

Progressing along this particularly delightful branch line, we pass over no less than 51 level crossings and cross over the famous swing bridge at Oulton Broad. There is a combination of half barriers, with some full barriers and just ‘open’ crossings with lights and sirens. We run onto the single line section to Melton and then Wickham Market and Saxmundham where a token exchange occurs again.

Darsham and Halesworth and then Beccles and Oulton Broad South are reached before crossing the swing bridge to join the line from Norwich from the left and enter Lowestoft.

Cab Rides Around the British Isles: Ipswich to Peterborough in 2001

Cab Rides Around the British Isles: Ipswich to Peterborough in 2001

Ref: KF268D

Price:£17.95

Our cab ride was recorded from the cab of Anglia Railways Sprinter 150229 on 3rd September 2001.

The actual full journey time was increased by an hour and ten minutes due to the failure of a Class 86 locomotive in Stowmarket Station, although that extra time delay is not included in this DVD. No waiting at signals for long periods!

After departing from Ipswich we join the main line towards Norwich at East Suffolk Junction. We run through Needham Market and then get stopped at a red light outside Stowmarket because of the loco failure there.

We eventually proceed to Stowmarket Station and then continue to Haughley Junction and pass through Elmswell and Thurston before stopping at Bury St. Edmunds. We then pass Kennet and at Chippenham Junction we head for Ely Dock Junction. We stop at Ely and then progress to Ely North Junction and on through Manea before calling at March and Whittlesea.

We pass by the eastern end of the Nene Valley preserved railway and join the East Coast Main Line at Crescent Junction before pulling into Peterborough Station.

Cab Rides Around the British Isles: Kings Cross to Hull

Ref: KF269D

Price:£17.95

Our cab ride was recorded from the cab of an Anglia Railways Turbo unit 170204.

We depart from Platform No. 3 at 08.33 in the midst of the morning rush hour. There will be four stops in our cab ride: Grantham, Doncaster, Selby and Brough before our final destination of Hull.

We pass through the famous Copenhagen tunnel at 594 yards long then pass through Finsbury Park, Harringay, Hornsey and some twenty more stations. Much of the journey is at the maximum speed of 100mph for the Turbo unit.

North of Werrington, Peterborough, we view flashing green signals indicating that 140 mph was possible, but not for our train. We climb Stoke bank, site of Mallard’s record breaking run in 1938 when it achieved 126 mph on the up line. Shortly after leaving Brough Station we can see the Humber road bridge and soon afterwards arrive at Hull’s Platform No. 4.

The cab ride was recorded as part of Anglia Railways driving training programme.

Liverpool Street to Norwich

We are in the cab of Anglia Railways Class 9709 with a Class 86 at the rear providing the power. At times the Class 86 would not respond well to the driver’s controls and jolt the train and our camera equipment in the cab!

We depart from London’s Liverpool Street Station at 08.31 and look forward to arrival at Norwich at 10.38. Look out for a number of other classes en route such as 47s, EMUs and 66s and some Docklands Light Railway services.

On our journey out of London we pass over no less than 24 junctions and crossovers and pass through 20 stations before our first stop at Ingatestone.

Our second stop is at Colchester followed by Manningtree and Ipswich. Our journey progresses into Norfolk and to Diss our next stop before arriving at Norwich.
